There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently required to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling hall, features 150 slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that contains numerous comforts accompanying the gambling hall, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 table games.
