Casino wagering continues to grow in popularity around the globe. With every new year there are fresh casinos setting up operations in old markets and brand-new domains around the globe.

Often when some people give thought to a career in the casino industry they naturally envision the dealers and casino employees. It's only natural to look at it this way given that those people are the ones out front and in the public eye. That aside, the gaming industry is more than what you may observe on the wagering floor. Gaming has grown to be an increasingly popular leisure activity, reflecting increases in both population and disposable cash. Employment expansion is expected in achieved and expanding gambling locations, such as Las Vegas, Nevada, and Atlantic City, New Jersey, as well as in other States that seem likely to legitimize betting in the future.

Like nearly every business place, casinos have workers that direct and administer day-to-day operations. Various tasks required of gaming managers, supervisors, and surveillance officers and investigators do not require interaction with casino games and bettors but in the scope of their job, they have to be quite capable of managing both.

Gaming managers are responsible for the full operation of a casino's table games. They plan, arrange, direct, control, and coordinate gaming operations within the casino; determine gaming procedures; and choose, train, and schedule activities of gaming staff. Because their day to day jobs are so varied, gaming managers must be quite knowledgeable about the games, deal effectively with staff and patrons, and be able to assess financial consequences impacting casino advancement or decline. These assessment abilities include measuring the P...L of table games and slot machines, having knowledge of matters that are prodding economic growth in the u.s.a. and so on.

Salaries will vary by establishment and locale. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) numbers show that full-time gaming managers were paid a median annual wage of $46,820 in 1999. The lowest 10 per cent earned less than $26,630, and the highest ten percent earned just over $96,610.

Gaming supervisors oversee gaming operations and staff in an assigned area. Circulating among the table games, they make sure that all stations and games are attended to for each shift. It also is typical for supervisors to interpret the casino's operating regulations for members. Supervisors might also plan and organize activities for guests staying in their casino hotels.

Gaming supervisors must have certain leadership qualities and excellent communication skills. They need these tactics both to supervise workers properly and to greet players in order to boost return visits. Almost all casino supervisory staff have an associate or bachelor's degree. No matter their their educational background, however, many supervisors gain experience in other gaming occupations before moving into supervisory areas because knowledge of games and casino operations is important for these staff.
