There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino gaming is not legal. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of many borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that contains a number of conveniences accompanying the casino, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
